Instructions For Installing Baseboard Trim At Inside Corners

I have found that installing baseboard trim at inside corners works best by coping them. Being in business I am always looking for quick easy ways to install trim keeping in mind the quality of the craftmanship. A quick, easy and quality way of doing this is using the dremel tool again with the drum sander attachment (attachment product number 407). For example I will explain how to base an inside 45 degree corner.

Your Starting Wall

Ready, first measure to the inside corner from your previous piece of base or your starting wall. make sure you have a long enough piece and make your joint whether its a square cut or a cope or an outside corner at your starting end. Then transfer your measurement to your wood and mark this on the back side of the baseboard.

Set And Cut

Set this piece on the saw with the finished side against or towards the fence of the saw. Once again move the degrees of the saw towards the long side of the wood to preferably 50 degrees or as close to 50 as possible. Again cut this piece leaving the line. This piece is ready and can be nailed in and should fit into the corner nicely if your measurement was correct. Again before installing baseboard trim be sure you have found at least one stud and you have your spacers there if carpeting is going in.

Cutting And Coping

Grab yourself a nice matching piece of baseboard and set it on your miter saw finished side out once again. Turn your miter saw to 22 1/2 degrees toward the long part of your wood. Grab firmly and cut the wood at this angle on the very end of your piece. Now you have a 22 1/2 degree back cut on your piece of wood.

Looking at your cut piece of base there is a natural line between the cut part and the finished part. Move your miter saw from 22 1/2 degrees back to 0 degrees and continue moving over to as far as the saw will go.

Carefully cut down this natural line as far as possible without cutting into the finished part. Depending on the style of base that natural line will start to curve - stop at this curve.

A Bit Of Trial And Error

Using your dremel tool grind the rest of the wood off to this natural line. Now it is a bit of trial and error keep fitting this piece into the previous piece grinding the angle back as needed to make this piece fit nice and tight against the previous one.

Again as before this seems longer than it really is. It is important to understand and be explained fully so as to make this as easy as possible. After a little practice you will be surprised at how quick it really goes at installing baseboard trim.
