to Buy Kitchen Cabinets? You Should First Know the Standard Kitchen Cabinet Sizes Available

The need to know kitchen cabinet sizes

The kitchen, they say, is the heart of your home. It is a place where you cook, talk, and entertain your guests. So, any change you make in your kitchen should be done only after careful consideration. This is especially true in case of kitchen cabinets. If you are looking to replace your old cabinets and with new ones, it is important that you first know the wide range of standard cabinet sizes available.

Basic Kitchen Layout and Design

Standard kitchen cabinet sizes

Base cabinets are usually 24 inches deep and 34 ½ inches tall. Wall cabinets are usually 12 to 13 inches deep and 30 to 42 inches tall. The width of these cabinets can be anywhere from 9 inches to 48 inches in 3-inch increments. Depending on the size of your kitchen and your convenience, you can adjust the height and width of these cabinets.

Custom built and semi custom built kitchen cabinets

If you have oversized appliances that cannot be contained in stock cabinets or if you want to build your kitchen cabinets with lots of additional features like revolving shelves and inbuilt wine racks, you can go for custom made kitchen cabinets. There are no standard sizes for custom built cabinets. You can ask the woodworking company to build it according to your specifications. If you are an experienced woodworker, you can build your own cabinet too.

Create Your Dream kitchen

Semi custom built cabinets, on the other hand, do not differ much from standard factory built cabinets. They are basically stock cabinets that come with additional storage options to accommodate various appliances. Kitchen cabinet sizes for semi custom built cabinets usually differ from one manufacturer to another. So, it is a good idea to check with the company to know the standard sizes for these cabinets.

Placing the kitchen cabinet perfectly

Once you have chosen the right cabinet for your kitchen, you should place it perfectly. If you like cabinets and appliances running along one wall, you can go for the ‘galley’ look. If you like cabinets and appliances running alone two walls, you can go for the ‘double galley’ look. If you prefer cabinets and appliances running along adjacent walls, you can go for the ‘L shaped’ look. If you prefer cabinets and appliances running along three walls of the kitchen, you can go for the ‘U shaped’ look.
